Services to Solicitors
Advice concerning obstetrical cases and injuries to the foetus during delivery are not available from this site.
The services available to solicitors from this site are of two kinds..
In all cases a summary of significant facts with a minimum of technical jargon can be provided, to enable the solicitor to make sense of the case and what the accepted form(s) of treatment for the condition treated are.
When requested the report continues with a report on liability.
It is advised that originals of documents should not be forwarded unless it is essential. When x-rays, or other films of imaging need to be forwarded they must be sent by registered mail. While the originals of these may need to be shown in Court, copies of such films can be prepared by radiologists; and the originals retained. X-ray films and similar imaging cannot sucessfully be photocopied.
TO PROCEED the solicitor sends the file and a cheque for $440 inclusive of GST must accompany the file. The solicitor must specify exactly what he/she requires. If only a sumamry is required this must be stated. A preliminary report will be sent usually within two weeks.
When an opinion on liability has been requested, the report will indicate whether or not [prima facie] the practitioner’s treatment of the patient was or was not within acceptable standards together with an invoice indicating the cost of preparing the definitive report will be forwarded. The preliminary rpoert is not meant to be definitive unless the case is very simple when the definitive view will be given. The cost depends largely on the volume of data and the complexity of the case. In the very simplest of case the initial fee will cover the cost of the definitive report
Data must be sent in envelopes or boxes – both of adequate strength to avoid loss of documents en route, to:
Arnold MANN FRCS (Eng) FRACS
PO Box 774 Mount Eliza Victoria 3930
• avoid wrapping with paper and Sellotape. Case notes get lost if this is done.
