Surgical and Traumatic Wounds In General

The World Health Organisation publication International Classification of Procedures in Medicine, lists several thousands of different types of procedures; the index alone runs to almost 150 pages.  It is therefore impossible in this book even to list all of these separately, let alone deal with the complications to which each may give rise.

In this chapter we deal, in general terms, with complications which may arise during and after many different surgical operations, and which may give rise to litigation alleging negligence.  In other chapters we consider more specific examples.
